Drought Assessment -
On each
Thursday, the NOAA Climate Prediction Center, together with the
United States Department of Agriculture, the National Drought
Mitigation Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the NOAA National
Climatic Data Center issues a weekly drought assessment called
the United States Drought Monitor. The monitor provides a
consolidated depiction of national drought conditions based on a
combination of drought indicators and field reports. The CPC
issues the Seasonal United States Drought Outlook each month in
conjunction with the Thursday release of the long-lead
temperature and precipitation outlooks near the middle of the
month.

Climate Visualization
- an
interactive graphing tool designed to allow visual browsing of
the data available online at the NOAA National Climatic Data
Center.

Heating & Cooling Degree Day Data - heating
fuel demand information on a state-wide basis. The total monthly
series, by state, are available for the period 1931/32 through
1991/92: Historical Climatology Series 5-1, "State Regional and
National Monthly and Seasonal Heating Degree Days Weighted by
Population (1990 Census), (July 1931 - June 1992)." Additional

U.S. Historical Climatology Network -
high-quality moderate sized data set of monthly averaged
maximum, minimum and mean temperature and total monthly
precipitation developed to assist in the detection of regional
climate change. The USHCN is comprised of 1,221 high-quality
stations from the U.S. Cooperative Observing Network within the
48 contiguous United States. |

Atmosphere Ocean Project (TAO) - Real-time data
from moored ocean buoys for improved detection, understanding
and prediction of El Niño and La Niña. |

NOAA Climate
Program Office — Created in October 2005, the Climate
Program Office incorporates the Office of Global Programs, the Arctic
Research Office, the Climate Observations and Services Program, and
coordinates climate activities across NOAA. The CPO focuses on
developing a broader user community for climate products and services,
provides a focal point for climate activities within NOAA, leads NOAA
climate education and outreach activities, and coordinates international
climate activities.

National Climatic Data Center
- NCDC is the world's largest active archive of weather data. NCDC
produces numerous climate publications and responds to data requests
from all over the world. NCDC operates the World Data Center for
Meteorology, which is collocated at NCDC in Asheville, North Carolina,
and the World Data Center for Paleoclimatolgy which is located in
Boulder, Colorado.

National Centers for
Environmental Prediction - The National Centers for
Environmental Prediction, located in Camp Springs, Md., is "Where
America's Climate and Weather Services Begin". Virtually all the
meteorological data collected over the globe arrives at NCEP, where
environmental scientists analyze this information and generate a wide
variety of environmental guidance information. |

Climate Prediction
Center -
serves the public by assessing and forecasting the impacts of short-term
climate variability, emphasizing enhanced risks of weather-related
extreme events, for use in mitigating losses and maximizing economic
gains. |

Climate Services
Division at the NOAA National Weather Service provides the
strategic vision for climate services and oversees the NWS climate
services program. It develops policy and requirements for climate
prediction products and other services related to the period of a week
out to one year, including seasonal forecasts and threats assessments. |

Climate Diagnostics Center
-
identifies the nature and causes of climate variations on time scales
ranging from a month to centuries. The goal of this work is to develop
the ability to predict important climate variations on these time
scales. |

Ocean Climate Laboratory
- develops improved ocean climatologies for annual, seasonal and monthly
compositing periods; investigates interannual-to-decadal ocean climate
variability using historical oceanographic data; builds scientifically,
quality-controlled global oceanographic databases; facilitates
international exchange of oceanographic data. |

Climate Monitoring & Diagnostics
Laboratory - conducts sustained observations and research
related to source and sink strengths, trends and global distributions of
atmospheric constituents that are capable of forcing change in the
climate of Earth through modification of the atmospheric radiative
environment, those that may cause depletion of the global ozone layer
and those that affect baseline air quality. CMDL accomplishes this
mission primarily through long-term measurements of key atmospheric
species at sites spanning the globe, including four fully-equipped
Baseline Observatories. |

Aviation Weather Center provides aviation warnings and forecasts of
hazardous flight conditions at all levels within domestic and
international air space.
Climate Prediction Center monitors and forecasts short-term climate
fluctuations and provides information on the effects climate patterns
can have on the nation.
Environmental Modeling
Center
develops and improves numerical weather, climate, hydrological and ocean
prediction through a broad program in partnership with the research
community.
Hydrometeorological
Prediction Center provides nationwide analysis and forecast guidance
products out through seven days.
NCEP Central Operations
sustains and executes the operational suite of numerical analyses and
forecast models and prepares NCEP products for dissemination.
Ocean Prediction Center
issues weather warnings and forecasts out to five days for the Atlantic
and Pacific Oceans north of 30 degrees North.
Space Environment Center
provides space weather alerts and warnings for disturbances that can
affect people and equipment working in space and on earth.
Storm Prediction Center
provides tornado and severe weather watches for the contiguous United
States along with a suite of hazardous weather forecasts.
Tropical Prediction Center
includes the National Hurricane Center and provides forecasts of the
movement and strength of tropical weather systems and issues watches and
warnings for the U.S. and surrounding areas.
